Internship Opportunity 2025 : Practice Manager Role at the World Bank
The 2025 Practice Manager is responsible for executing the designated work program effectively and efficiently, ensuring the optimal use of human and financial resources while adhering to internal controls and policies. The PM ensures timely delivery and maintains high-quality outputs.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Management:
- Establish a strategic vision and business plan for the unit.
- Empower and develop teams to provide exceptional services to clients.
- Foster a unit culture aligned with corporate values.
- Cultivate and diversify talent within the team.
- Promote innovation, agility, and continuous learning.
- Program Delivery:
- Oversee the completion of operational and analytical tasks as agreed.
- Manage the portfolio to meet established quality standards.
- Ensure adherence to the agreed budget.
- Risk Management:
- Assign appropriate risk management personnel to projects based on their complexity.
- Ensure the quality control of Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) documents in collaboration with relevant PMs.
- Address any policy interpretation issues or system challenges with the ESF Institutional Support Unit and keep Regional and Global Directors informed.
- Participate actively in corporate risk monitoring and management activities.
- Conduct ongoing monitoring and quality assurance for social standards during project preparation and execution, ensuring staff effectively report on social safeguards and standards in Implementation Status and Results Reports.
- Seek opportunities to enhance country capacity through Bank instruments and other interventions, as well as analytical work related to ESF.
- Contribute to knowledge management initiatives for social safeguards and ESF.
- Collaborate with the Regional Environment and Social Standards Adviser.
- Strategic Implementation Support:
- Translate corporate commitments regarding gender, climate, and Fragility, Conflict, and Violence into actionable operational and analytical work.
- Maximize financing for development by partnering with other development entities, engaging the private sector, and collaborating with IFC and MIGA.
- Participate in the development and implementation of Country Partnership Frameworks.
- Global Collaboration:
- Support the execution of Planet strategies.
- Contribute to the Planet and Social Development Management Team and Talent Board, focusing on strategic staffing, talent reviews, learning, knowledge sharing, and external partnerships.
- Share insights and best practices from other Social Development units with the team.
- Encourage reciprocal support among different Social Development units.
- Cross-Sector Collaboration:
- Inspire teams to collaborate beyond the boundaries of Social Development.
- Acknowledge and reward staff contributions to initiatives led by other departments and verticals.

Selection Criteria for 2025 Practice Manager
- Master’s or PhD degree in relevant field, and typically the successful candidate will have 12-15 years of experience in positions of increasing complexity and responsibility
- Deep technical knowledge and multi-regional experience in one or more of the following areas: social inclusion, social accountability and citizen engagement, conflict, crime and violence, community-driven development, social analytics, social impacts of climate change, social risk management in operations, including on issues related to social safeguard policies and social standards
- Passion for the WBG vision and mission
- Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills and behaviors
- Extensive experience in both country level project and analytical work related to social development
- Recognized expert within WBG or among one or more of the following: academia, partners, private sector actors, and policymakers, and with track record of applying practice know-how and effective policy dialogue to achieve development results
- Demonstrated in-depth experience working across practice and disciplinary boundaries, and with multiple stakeholders – both public and private – in building collaborative alliances for results
- Ability to influence dialogue and policy on social development, and in related areas that are impacting the social development agenda (e.g., fragility, social protection, governance, climate change, etc.)
- Strong written and oral communication skills with proven experience in dealing with the media, external constituencies and expert group
- Working level proficiency in English is required.
